I am doing a project today for several weeks now which
I called “Project Change” where my loose changes will be kept in an empty
bottle instead of the traditional piggy bank. This maybe a childish act to some
but hey! Isn’t it that great things start from small steps?
The steps involve are very effortless. You’ll only
need a clean empty bottle or closed container which cannot be open easily. Look
around your house, in the kitchen maybe to make an improvised piggy bank. Create
a hole enough to drop your coins.
Mine is very simple. I have 2 bottles; one is
smaller than the other. The 1st bottle is for 5-centavo and
25-centavo coins while the other is for 5 and 10-peso coins. When I reached
home after shopping, going to market or school, I placed all my loose change
into these bottles. I even asked my
sister to put hers if she has any. Each time I clean the house, I’m surprised
to find few 25cents on the floor. Now they have a place where they should be.
To avoid from untimely opening it, set a goal or
target just like what I did. I intend to open them on Christmas for my holiday
shopping. Each time you are tempted to open, think back of your goal. If you’re using transparent bottles like mine,
I suggest covering the entire body of that bottle with a masking tape so you
can’t see the coins inside. There might be a tendency for you to open that
bottle because your eyes can imagine how much money you have there. Place it
maybe inside your cabinet or in a place where you are most comfortable of. You
can even set a 6-monnth goal if you want.
It entails discipline when fighting the temptation
but with targeted goal, this is just going to be easy. This step might just be the simplest and
easiest way to start saving but the end result is great. Who would have thought that I find simple
pleasure doing this?
Have you tried doing the same thing? Tell me about
it and I am here to listen.
